"I wanted to create a present-day native narrative. Diné weaver Effie Yazzie from Monument Valley is my model. On the right half of the painting there are some clues, some more conspicuous than others, such as the pickup truck truck, that let viewers know they are looking at a contemporary scene, while on the left side the time period remains ambiguous."
