Shadow Juniper

"The stories behind my paintings can be fluid and evolve over the days or weeks while I’m working on them but they always begin with one little spark of visual inspiration that eventually grows into a finished painting. What first drew me to this subject was the similarity of the shadows on her white dress to the shadows on the eroded pediment of a mesa when viewed from a distance. Subtle contours that are invisible when viewed in direct sunlight become visible and even exaggerated once they are illuminated by oblique late afternoon sunlight raking across it’s subtle forms"
